Current Status

Currently Ishwarpuram is a home for around 45 children. This number includes 15 children from nearby areas of Pune district and 30 children from Manipur and surrounding areas. These children live in harmony and cooperate very well with the Ishwarpuram team. They help each other during any problems and heartily welcome a new member in the team.

Most of the children are quite good at studies and Ishwarpuram makes it a point to provide them a quality education. Children from North-East attend English Medium School (Military School just opposite Ishwarpuram premises), while Children from Pune and surrounding places attend Marathi Medium School (Dhotre High School in nearby Tulapur village). During recently concluded academic year (2007-08), 39 of 42 children passed their respective final examinations with flying colours!

Besides studies, children are also provided with vocational training that promises to be a future source of earning for them. At the same time they contribute a small means of earning for Ishwarpuram. These programs include:

Farming: Most of the children at Ishwarpuram hail from remote places, and they are accustomed to farming. At Ishwarpuram, they cultivate vegetables like brinjal, tomato, beans etc.

Vermiculture: Children have recently learned art of vermiculture and have already achieved expertise in it! They develop vermicompost regularly and supply to a nearby nursery.

Nursery: Children love to cultivate decorative plants like duranta, roses, hibiscus etc. They also grow saplings of fruits like mangoes and papaya.

Poultry Farming: Children get to learn nitty-gritty of poultry farming on a nearby poultry farm. They are now well-conversant with the whole process.

Candle Making and other arts: Mr. Santosh Zite is a 'drawing' and 'craft' teacher to the children and has taught them candle making technique. These candles are available in various shapes and sizes, and form good amount of revenue for Ishwarpuram during 'Diwali' festival. Children also indulge in fine arts like sculpture, carpentry etc.

Children actively participate in sports like Karate, Football and Cricket.
Children at Ishwarpuram are self-dependent. They themselves take care of washing their clothes and utensils. They also help Ishwarpuram team clean the premises.

Seeing the progress of the children their relatives and other people are so impressed that they insist on admitting more kids. Some people who were part of terrorist groups, agreed to give up terrorism if their children were admitted to Ishwarpuram. All such incidences show need and success of this venture.
